Windows 8 picture password

Windows 8 picture password

The picture password feature allows Windows 8 users to select their own personal picture and sketch three different patterns over the picture to login. The new authentication system makes it easier for tablet and touch users to login to a Windows 8 PC. Microsoft filed a patent for the feature in February, 2008. The feature works by dividing the image into a grid. The result allows Windows 8 users to pick a photo and draw gestures over it to sign-in to their account. Gestures can include lines, circles and taps. Microsoft considered the amount of gestures required by analysing the different combinations required to create a secure environment.

Picture password is provided as a login mechanism in addition to your text password, not as a replacement for it. The software maker assessed a variety of methods to obtain the PIN or picture password sequence on a clean screen with only the gestures visible via smudging. The number of ways for ordering a 4 digit PIN is 24 according to Microsoft, if an attacker is able to see where all four smudges are present on the screen. This is improved to 48 combinations based on line and circle gestures.

Multicopter

Multicopter
Sure, you can take a ride in a helicopter with one giant sinning rotor on top. However, why not go with sixteen smaller once.
This is multicopter from Germany. Like most new flying vehicles, the first flight was not long...
By the way, if the multicopter loses four rotors, it can still stay aloft. I suppose that makes me feel safe in the midst of sixteen things that can chop me up like a blender...

I suppose that you will be paying to fly these at amusement parks? Yes, the multicopter is the balloon ride fo the next generation.

OmniTouch

OmniTouch
What you are seeing here is a project from Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon University, and it could easily be the future.

This OmniTouch has the amazing ability to turn any surface into a touchscreen. All of this is possible with this shoulder-mounted device that is both pico-projector and Kinect.

So if you want to use your hand to run applications, just hold it out and the proper buttons will appear. Forget about a tablet PC, all you need is just a paper tablet!

What I really like is how the user can just go to a nearby wall if they want to see an email. He or she can even finger paint on the wall, using their hand as a palette. Yes, the hand can be used as an interim interface, like when you want to project your display on your desk, for example.

Arctic Force Snow Tracball

Arctic Force Snow Tracball
Yes, winter is coming.
It's sure that kids as well as the others are going to be excited at the prospect of snowball fights. Old school methods include using a pair of gloves that pack in as much snow as possible in a round ball, then using all of your strength to hurl that snowball at incoming opponents.
You can now have tools to extend your firing range (and velocity) in the form of the £7.99 Arctic Force Snow Tracball.
